Have no idea what to wear when the weather can’t make up its mind? Here’s our guide on how to master easy layering with the latest in men’s long sleeve shirts, knitwear and weather-ready outerwear.
Rules to Layering
When it comes to transeasonal styling, it’s all about function and form - and in the case of the Calibre Man, fashion. Down here at Calibre HQ in Melbourne (the heartland of indecisive weather events) we love and need layering in our life all year round. Here’s what we’ve learnt;
- Layering isn’t about throwing all of your clothes on in a Joey from Friends style (google ‘Joey is Chandler’ for a reference) – you need to be strategic to be comfortable.
- Keep it simple with 3-4 items according to the forecast – for example; if it’s a rainy day that could end up a little steamy, layer with lightweight long sleeve shirts, sweaters and scarves, then cover up with a jacket or coat.
- Don’t overwhelm yourself in fabric - start with slim fitting undershirts then add sweaters that have room, yet still add shape.
- Don’t overthink it! Just remember it’s all about looking good and feeling comfortable… and if everything turns to terrible, your leather jacket is your best friend.
First Layer: The Long Sleeve Shirt
This is the core layer to your transeasonal outfit, abiding by the layering rules, use a slim-fit long sleeve cotton tee or polo, button up shirt or lightweight crew neck sweater for your first layer. Some guys might like to keep it short sleeved just in case the weather turns crazy-hot, but for most of the Autumn/Winter season, the long sleeve shirt is your go-to.
Second Layer: Knitwear & Sweaters
Perfect for your working wardrobe or weekend outings, a good quality wool jumper, sweater or cardigan is a must-have when mastering the art of the layer. This season we love the textured look with our range of Melange Knit Sweaters in perfect Autumnal colours like rust and jade.
Third Layer: Outerwear
Made for your daily commute and everything in between, cover up when it’s cold with a utilitarian style bomber jacket or invest in quality and style with our new season leather and suede outerwear collection. TIP: Choose a leather jacket that’s classic in look - pick a design that’s less about trend and more about personality.
Yours in style,
Calibre
