Oct 27, 2015 - Men's Biz

Spring is a season of renewal. Dead looking trees come roaring back to life. Flowers bloom. Optimism rises.

Spring presents a great opportunity to start afresh; to clean out your gym bag or bathroom cabinet, consider a new hairstyle, or start taking better care of your skin.

Spring sees a brighter sun emerge from behind clouds more often than it has done in recent months. Now that you’re not covered up with jackets and jumpers, it’s time to look out for skincare products with an SPF rating to protect your skin. A light, non-greasy moisturiser with sun protection is generally recommended for daily morning application. Clinique for Men and Lab Series Skincare for Men  both make excellent, light moisturisers that come with SPF protection. Similarly, a lip balm with SPF will protect your lips for the sun’s harsh glare. Jack Black make a range of balms, from lemon, Asian pear through to grapefruit and even a mint and vanilla.

Now that winter is over, it’s a good time to start using a face scrub to remove any dead skin cells and give your pores a deep and thorough clean. Triumph and Disaster, made by our cousins across the Tasman, have a great scrub called Rock and Roll Suicide, an interesting name, but certainly a great product worthy of your investment.

Another area not to be overlooked is your fragrance. Without delving too far into the esoteric world of scent, different fragrances suit different occasions and times of the day/year. So what wears best during Spring? Fougere (meaning fern-like) fragrances work particularly well during the mild sunny days that are now upon us. They will be lively, fun, and evoke imagery of fresh greenery and botanical exuberance. The Penhaligon’s English Fern Eau de Toilette spray will convey this message in a most effective manner.

Spring is the tme for a fresh start, so why not start with a fresh shave. Always shave straight after a shower or hold a hot wet towel over your face for a few minutes to ensure your hair is soft. Opt for a shaving soap that creates a thick lather, like the Penhaligons Shaving Soap in Bowl, and use a shaving brush (like this one from Omega)  to apply onto your face. We also love the Merkur Solingen Travel Razor for a clean shave no matter the holiday destination. It packs down into a tiny leather case when it is time to hit the road.

So your skin is feeling good as new, now it is time to give your hair some TLC. Ensure your hair is always looking slick and styled with Reuzel Grease Medium Hold Pomade. With just a medium shine and a minty scent, it is perfect for any hair type. Use the Military Palm Brush by Jack Black to keep those strands in line and tangle-free, and never forget your beard! The Baxter of California Beard and Moustache Comb will ensure you are looking sharp.

Put your best foot forward this Spring by get out amongst the action looking and smelling like a new man, a man on the move.
