The Calibre Man's Guide to Summer

Nov 12, 2015 - Calibre

Summer is the social season, with everything from lazy weekends by the shore to black-tie celebrations on the agenda. It is the season to be seen, and more poignantly, seen at your best.

That is why we have put together the Calibre Man’s Guide to Summer, with the IT places to go and how to look sharp when the temperature starts to rise.

DESTINATION: The Beachside Bar

The ultimate destination for warm summer nights, the Beachside Bar is the perfect place to quench your thirst after a day spent in the sun. A short sleeve shirt meets most dress codes, but will allow you to breathe and stay cool.

Our favourite picks:

Captain Baxter – St Kilda, VIC (pictured)

Manly Wharf Hotel – Manly, NSW

Cottesloe Beach Hotel, Cottesloe, QLD

Riva – Elwood, VIC

DESTINATION: Outdoor Cinema

The outdoor cinema scene hasn’t been around for too long, but if you are looking for a great place for a date, be it on a rooftop in Melbourne or by the shore at Bondi, it is definitely number one. Whether you are into action-packed blockbusters, cult classics, or a flick that will make you laugh, there is something scheduled for anyone. Our tip – dress for comfort (but still look sharp) in a cotton polo and a pair of chinos.

Our favourite picks:

Rooftop Cinema – Melbourne, VIC (pictured)

Bondi Open Air Cinema – Bondi, NSW

Rooftop Movies – Perth, WA

Moonlight Cinema – Adelaide, SA

Whether you are playing host or guest, Sunday afternoons in summer are reserved for the backyard BBQ - let your inner chef run wild (or just your inner foodie). While the afternoon is spent relaxing and spending time friends, it doesn’t mean you should drop the ball in the fashion stakes. We think printed short sleeve shirts and shorts are the perfect solution, and don’t forget the sunglasses!

Our favourite BBQ Lunch recipes:

The Ultimate Negroni

The Perfect Steak

Chargrilled Vegetable Kebabs

The Best Homemade Chips

The Calibre man is all about balancing hard work with time for socialising and relaxing. While in essence work end-of-year celebrations are about letting your hair down (in moderation if the big boss is in town), a man of Calibre will always look his best doing so. The Stone Blazer and Pants are our picks for the party season.

The five pieces you need for this party season:

A Cotton blazer – because dress codes don’t waiver due to weather!

Leather Loafers – a great dressed up alternative to lace up shoes (but don’t forget your invisible socks!)

A Cotton Suit – from summer weddings to parties, every man needs a summer cotton suit in his arsenal.

A short sleeve shirt – a great way to tick the ‘collared shirt’ dress code and keep cool at the same time!

D’Squared2 Sunglasses – Practical and fashion-forward, no summer look is complete without a stand-out pair of shades.
